Licensing fee for MP3
format
In a Slashdot
article: "Since Thomson Multimedia [and] the Frauenhofer Institute
has decided to press the $0.75-per-decoder charge for MP3 decoders
mentioned earlier today, there are probably a lot of people suddenly
more interested in other formats..." This brings a lot of
interest to the free, open source OGG format. We recommend downloading
great OGG software, such as this
OGG CD
Ripper or an OGG Converter:

&
Advanced WMA Workshop.

Do you want to
create a special Instrumental mix by removing vocals from an MP3, OGG,
or other digital audio song?
This may be possible, however, sometimes just by the way the song is
mixed, it is impossible to eliminate the vocals. "There are usually
other artifacts such as reverb and effects which are usually panned to
one side and these effects does not allow for a clean "removal" of
vocals." BUT, there is one way, that just might hit the
spot. :)

"Infineon
has created is a 1.25-inch-square MP3 player, controlled by a
half-inch-square chip, that is woven into a jacket. The 8g unit uses a
small battery and a multimedia card (MMC), but is otherwise invisible
to the user, all its functions being controlled by voice commands.
Infineon's technology, announced in April as the culmination of two
years of research, allows for microprocessors, sensors and connectors
to be integrated into ordinary fabrics that can be washed or
dry-cleaned, according to the company. "We did a lot of tests. We used
washing machines, we also ironed it," said spokesman Reiner Schoenrock.
"It is durable."
As a result, Infineon believes its first wearable products could be
ready in a year and could be in mass production in two years."
